2007 Accomplishments of Autrey Kennels
Retrievers
A year filled with highs and lows. The low was the loss of
GRHRCH UH Dakota's Cajun Roux MH. While we knew he'd been sick, we were not
aware how sick he was. While at LSU Vet School, they kept telling us he had a
tumor but were not able to locate it. Finally, Ronnie took him to Texas A&M Vet
School where they found that he had a fungal infection common in the arid south
west, normally west Texas, Arizona and New Mexico but not seen here in
Louisiana. We don't know if it was picked up in Brownsville, Texas, where we
dove hunt; in El Campo, Texas, where we rant the SRS; Colorado where he ran
trials each year, but we now know what took the life of the finest Chocolate
that I have ever had the pleasure to train. He will be missed by all that loved
to watch him run and compete, but as long as his puppies compete, Roux will live
with us in spirit.
The highs are long but well work discussing. We ran a total of
25 weekends during 2007 and watched the dog truck turn over 200,000 miles as we
were returning from Kansas in November from pheasant hunting. I had two
clients with me and 10 dogs; 9 of the 10 had never pheasant hunted before. There
were 23
other hungers and four other dogs on the trip. While I lost count of
the total number of birds killed and put up into the air, it was enough
that after three days, the dogs feet were so sore that they could hardly walk. A
good time was had by all and the dogs got some great experience. Mandy
Cieslinski and Colorado Roux had been in Kansas the week before with a group
from Colorado. They also had a lot of birds.
We earned 36 titles on a total of
27 dogs. Many received more than one title in the HRC and AKC hunt test venues.
Others also qualified for exclusive events, such as the HRC Grand, 500 Points
Club and AKC Master National. We had a couple of first passes of the HRC Grand
in the kennels this past year. It was a very exciting year.
